Faculty spotlight State Department Names Bluefield Fulbright Honoree Bluefield State College was one of 19 Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to be honored as a Fulbright Institutional Leader by the U.S. State Department. This award recognizes the college’s efforts to support Fulbright exchange participants during the 2018-2019 academic year. President Robin Capehart said, “Dr. Sudhakar Jamkhandi (BSC Director of the Office of International Initiatives) has done an outstanding job as the College’s liaison to the Fulbright Program. Through his ‘Windows On The World’ lecture series, many Fulbright scholars have helped students from area public schools and BSC, along with community members, gain a greater understanding and appreciation for other cultures and their areas of expertise.” Dr. Capehart himself was named a Fulbright Scholar in 2006 teaching and consulting about tax systems in Moldova. The W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business Dean Philip Imel taught accounting and finance in Ekaterinburg, Russia in 2011. Dr. Jamkhandi was named a Fulbright Specialist in Internationalizing Higher Education from 2011 to 2016.
