Numbers Are In !
As the Blue & Gold was going to press , President Capehart provided a campus-wide update on the numbers he reported earlier this summer . They are good !
The Cumulative Financial Index ( CFI ) is an important measuring stick used by colleges and universities to gauge financial health . It ’ s a 10-point scale where an institution scoring above 3.0 is considered out of financial stress .
For Fiscal Year 2021 , the results are astounding : Bluefield State ’ s CFI is 4.82 !
This is three years ahead of the five-year goal to achieve financial stability with a 3.0 CFI .
This new ranking is the second highest in West Virginia and significantly ahead of the state ’ s two largest institutions .
Add in assets from the Bluefield State College Foundation , which is permitted for private institutions , and the CFI exceeds 8.0 .
What does this mean for the future ?
• Expanded programs
• Increased enrollment
• Enhanced student experiences
• Increased salaries the College fails to take full advantage of the opportunities ahead .

Then he offered this reflection at the close of fall semester , “ Let us pause for a moment just to be thankful for the blessings we ’ ve received over the past two years and for me to offer – on behalf of our Board of Governors – a deep , heartfelt ‘ Thank You ’ to the dedicated staff and faculty of Bluefield State College for all their efforts in making this renaissance a reality .”
President Capehart cautioned that this swift progress could be halted , or even reversed , if
